Charleston Harbor

This past weekend I visited the Naval & Maritime Museum at Patriots Point in Charleston, SC. I toured the U.S.S Yorktown (CV-10) aircraft carrier commissioned on April 15, 1943 and decommissioned in 1970 and parked in Charleston Harbor in 1975.

If you are a patriot and love history it is hard not to be moved knowing that thousands of men served on this aircraft carrier and the planes that flew off her decks. The Yorktown also recovered the Apollo 8 astronauts, the first humans to fly around the moon- On the main deck floor, there are replicas of the Mercury and Apollo space capsules.

There are a number of hanger bays filled with WW11 and Vietnam era aircraft and some other assorted planes.

I recommend this museum to all patriots.
